ODF Alliance Privacy Policy

The ODF Alliance respects the privacy of visitors to its Web site and its member organizations. The Alliance strongly recognizes the need for our members, partners and visitors to understand that information provided to us online is used responsibly and appropriately. To protect online privacy, the Alliance has implemented the following policy.

What Information Does the Alliance Collect?
Most data the Alliance collects are not personal, but rather are business related to help the Alliance better accomplish its mission and serve its members.

From the General Public Using Unrestricted Alliance Files. The Alliance does not collect any personal information from users browsing its Web site. Users to the public areas of the Alliance Web site browse anonymously. Only aggregate data -- such as the number of hits per page -- are collected. Aggregate data are only used for internal and marketing purposes and do not provide any personally identifying information.

From Alliance Members, Information Subscribers and Other Customers. To gain access to some of the members-only or subscription-based areas of the Alliance Web site, users are asked to provide some limited information. These data are submitted voluntarily. The Alliance asks users to provide their name, job title, company, business address, business phone, fax and e-mail. The Alliance does not collect home addresses, home phone numbers or home e-mail accounts, except for those specifically requesting home office correspondence.

A Note About Children. The Alliance does not knowingly market its goods or services to minors. The Alliance encourages its younger visitors to get their parents' permission before providing any information to the Alliance. Although the nature of the Internet makes it impossible for the Alliance to know the age of its visitors, the Alliance does not collect any personal information about people of any age.

How Does the Alliance Use Data Collected?
The Alliance uses other information voluntarily submitted by members and other customers in the following ways:

Newsletters and Email Updates. The Alliance uses data it collects from interested parties on a voluntary basis to provide information updates and newsletters, and to solicit participation in the Alliance and related activities. Data collected for individuals wishing to receive this information is not shared with third parties without consent.

Alliance Member Services and Products. Generally, the Alliance uses data it collects to enable us to communicate with members and interested parties, including providing individuals and their organizations with information about ODF, open standards and related information, services, promotions or special opportunities or offers.

Disclosures to Third Parties. On occasion, the Alliance reserves the right to also provide limited membership data to third parties that offer products and services that serve in the interest of the Alliance and its members. These limited data include names, job titles, companies and business addresses, but do not include business phone numbers, business fax numbers or e-mail addresses. In addition, the Alliance only provides information to third parties that have adopted privacy policies that meet the criteria established by the Alliance. Users may request that the Alliance refrain from disclosing membership data it collects to third parties on the membership application form or any other form on which they are providing information. How Does the Alliance Ensure Compliance with its Privacy Policy?
The Alliance is committed to making sure that its privacy policy is understood and respected by all of its employees. Access to data collected from visitors to its Web site is granted on an as-needed basis to employees.

How Does the Alliance Handle Concerns or Complaints?
The Alliance believes that individuals should have the right to review their personal information to ensure its accuracy. Members that are concerned about the treatment of their personal data or wish to review their data should contact the Alliance at info@odfalliance.org or (202) 289-7442.
